Maryland: A Place for History and Leisure

Maryland is a great place for experiencing historical sites like the National Museum of Civil War Medicine and for enjoying fun places such as The Jolly Ranger Amusement Park. Popular cities to visit are Bethesda, Eastern Shore, Denton, Baltimore, and neighboring Washington DC.

Maryland is known for the many historical events that it has been a part of. They have the Maryland Historical Society campus that houses a library with over 350,000 objects as well as seven million books and documents from pre-settlement day to present. Maryland is home to the Star-Spangled Banner and many other documents that can be viewed at The H. Furlong Baldwin Library. Maryland is well remembered for its World War II Memorials. Other places to visit are the Drum Point Lighthouse on Solomon’s island at the Calvert Marine Museum, the Great Falls National Park to see the historical Patowmack Canal, the Aberdeen Military base, the Walter’s Art Museum in Baltimore, and of course, the Maryland’s Renaissance Festival in Annapolis.

Additional activities in Maryland are hiking, river rafting, canoes, camping, and all beach activities. The Eastern Shore is home to Ocean City Beach, one of the most beautiful oceans and has the well developed boardwalks. There is also an Arbor Day run, which is a 5K or 1mile run for all ages. Denton is a historical site of many Quakers as well as a river that can be crossed by steamboat or canoe. The National Aquarium in Baltimore has high ratings as well. There is also a spring celebration that holds an annual pig race. It seems that Maryland finds an excuse to have a celebration or festival for almost every month of the year.

Whether it's an exciting adventure or a school tour, Maryland has activities and sites to fulfill every request.
